Apply for BA direct entry as Second Officer

Hi Kate, Exciting you also changed careers. Me: 31yo, fresh Qantas pilot academy graduate, frozen ATPL, completed B787 type rating. I’m about to start as a Second officer with Qantas Group but will not be gaining command hours as SO. Do I qualify for BA 787 direct entry roles? Kind regards

Hi. Congrats on getting your ATPL!

For all our long haul roles we need an unfrozen ATPL, but when you have that you would be very welcome to apply for our long haul opportunities. With a current B787 type rating that would be a possible role offered, but it depends on the requirements of the company. A lot can change in a couple of years as you well know!

To fly in the UK you will need a UK licence so might be worth thinking about that if you are serious about moving to a UK base. It would require you to do ATPL theory exams and you would need to check any other requirements with the UK CAA.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
