Hello,
Thanks for your question.
Yes, Cabin Crew can wear hearing aids and still operate flights, as long as they’re able to carry out all safety and communication duties effectively. Airlines — including British Airways — don’t automatically rule out candidates with hearing loss, but each case is assessed individually.
Will you pass the medical?
That depends on a few key factors. You would generally need to demonstrate that your hearing — with the use of hearing aids — allows you to:
- Communicate clearly with passengers and other crew members
- Hear cabin announcements and safety alarms (with or without hearing aids)
- Respond confidently and reliably in emergency situations
- Pass a hearing test (such as an audiogram) as part of the medical assessment
- Use hearing aids that are effective and dependable in noisy, high-pressure environments like the aircraft cabin
Ultimately, it’s not about whether you use hearing aids, but whether you can safely fulfil all safety-critical responsibilities required of Cabin Crew
I hope that helps 😊
Dan
