I’m an actor considering applying to Cabin Crew. Could I juggle acting/auditions w/ the schedule of a flight attendant?

    Hi Estelle,

    Thanks for your question.

Lots of Cabin Crew at BA have other interests, hobbies or jobs outside of flying. I’m sure we must have some aspiring actors, too!

However, here’s a few things to consider:

    - BA Cabin Crew work on a shift basis with our rosters published a month in advance. Given that BA flies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year, it can be difficult to guarantee certain days off. This might make it difficult to attend auditions etc.

    - You also have to take into account that on your days off you may be tired from your previous duty. We cross a lot of time zones and often fly through the night!

    - Most importantly, you need to be fit and well rested prior to starting your next duty. This is a legal requirement as you’re there primarily for our customer’ safety. So any job outside of your cabin crew role must not interfere with this.

As an example, I was a secondary school teacher before I was cabin crew. Initially, I thought I might tutor on my days off. However, it turns out most parents want the same day each week and, as cabin crew, I just can’t achieve this - the nature of my flying roster won’t allow it. However, I do manage to do some supply teaching as and when I can, but that is on an ad hoc basis only.

    I hope that helps 🙂
