Is it very hard to become a pilot and do you have to go through intense training? Also, how do you manage your work and life?

Hi Riya.
Thanks for your message and it is exciting that you want to be a pilot.
The training can be quite challenging but that shouldn’t put you off. We look at lots of different skills which you can develop including team work, leadership, communication skills, being professional and having high standards, decision making and problem solving. Hand eye coordination is important and an ability to do simple maths quickly and accurately. Computer games or sports or activities that build these skills can be beneficial.
Being part of a team and joining relevant clubs like the Air Cadets or working at a local flying club can be useful stepping stones but there are many routes to becoming a pilot. Speedbird Z, https://careers.ba.com/work-experience, has helpful information and opportunities for work experience.
Work life balance can take some consideration and it is often a 365 day a year job so working weekends and holidays is normal but it can also be flexible, as being a pilot does give the potential for varied types of rostering and part time working. Having time off in the week is often a bonus for shift workers and those on patterns like pilots.
I hope that is helpful and good luck with your dreams!
Kate
