Job prospects with restricted Class 1

Anonymous asked a question to Chloe H.

Hi, I hope you’re well. I’m in the process of starting to think about an airline career. Before I start my PPL, the wise advice is to go and get the Class 1 medical. From what I’ve read, and from lots of research, I could well be given a Class 1 medical, but with multi-crew restrictions I.e. I won’t be able to fly solo. Not a problem for airliners. Now, this might not be a problem for a pilot currently employed, but do you know if this would cause issues with an new pilot and their employment prospects, albeit in the case where the restriction wasn’t eventually lifted?

    Hi.

    Thanks for your message.

We can’t give you too much advice on Medicals but you would be required to hold a class one medical to train as a pilot. You would need to fly solo on several occasions to complete your training so this may be the barrier if you cannot get this restriction lifted.

I hope this was helpful even if not quite the answer you would have preferred.

    All the best.

    Kate
