Tattoo policy

View favourites

Hi, I’m currently a long-haul cabin crew member interested in joining BA. I understand visible tattoos aren’t allowed, but are there any plans to review this policy, especially for hand tattoos? Many airlines have updated their policies—will BA consider the same? Thanks!

    Hello,

    Thanks for your question.

It’s unlikely our tattoo policy will change since it corresponds with our uniforn guidelines, which was updated when we launched our new uniform. This takes into account a variety of factors, one being a cultural consideration - visible tattoos may not be appropriate in some of the destinations we fly to.

However, depending on where your tattoos are, they may be acceptable if you’re able to cover them up.

I answered a similar question recently which I have included below:

Visible tattoos are not permitted whilst in uniform. This means tattoos must be covered with uniform items, tights or socks. This may require you to wear a long-sleeved shirt or trousers if you have tattoos on your arms or legs. If you can use specialist cover up make up or white/nude undergarments which stop your tattoo from being visible, these can be used, but only when used underneath the uniform or tights.

Face / neck and hand tattoos are not permitted as these cannot be covered by our uniform.

I hope that goes some way to answering your question 😊
