What are the no of applications vs actual places for the fully funded and self funded options for the pilot training?
Ashleigh M. asked a question to Samer T.
This is for my son who is studying A Levels and will apply to start approx Sept 2026 (predicted grades ABB). Trying yo manage expectations but he is very interested in a commercial pilots career.

Hi Ashleigh.
The Speedbird Pilot Academy tends to take between 100 and 200 applicants each year. We have thousands of applicants and it is competitive but if you meet the criteria it is worth applying. I would highly recommend looking at our career pages including Future Pilots and FAQs and also joining webinars at British Airways Pilot Recruitment where you can ask questions and get an insight into the process.
At the moment we are not running the Self Sponsored Pathway and we do not have a date for this to reopen. You can join British Airways as a Direct Entry Pilot once you have around 500 hours commercial flying depending on the campaigns and positions available at the time.
We hope to hear from your son in the future and wish him all the best in following a career in flying.
Kate
