Does this mean he cannot become a pilot what other aviation roles would he be able to do? Would he be able to fly at all even if this were a hobby?

Hi Emma - Unfortunately I cannot advise on this, it would be something they would need to ask an AME (Aviation Medical Examiner) or the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority), even then it may not be a direct answer. In order to become a commercial pilot, they would need a Class 1 medical, but to fly more as a hobby, a Class 2 would be sufficient and the testing is less stringent.
