Hello, Thank you for your question. Here at London Heathrow our Inflight Manager colleagues can fly both our longhaul and shorthaul network, just like all flying colleagues, therefore operate a mixed flying schedule. It’s a great way to keep things interesting and flexible for everyone involved!

If you do have any other questions feel free to post below 😊

How often do applications for IFL and IFM come out and how old was the youngest IFM you've met? How long does it normally take to get to IFM?

    Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your great questions. It’s brilliant to see you already thinking about progression within the Cabin Crew career path.

Opportunities to apply for Inflight Lead (IFL) and Inflight Manager (IFM) roles typically come up internally, and while there isn’t a fixed annual cycle, they tend to open based on operational demand.

In terms of progression, the journey really depends on your performance, experience, and how actively you seek development:

    • The youngest IFM I’ve come across was in their late 20s, which shows that it’s absolutely possible to progress relatively quickly if you’re committed and consistently performing to a high standard.
    • On average, it can take a few years to move from New Entrant Cabin Crew to IFL, and a little longer again to step into the IFM role. That said, some people progress faster, particularly if they demonstrate strong leadership qualities, a passion for customer experience, and a proactive approach to learning.

It sounds like you’ve already got the right mindset, so keep aiming high and those opportunities will come.

    I hope that helps 😊

    Dan
