What is the best Pilot pathway when moving from the US to the UK?

Lillie W. asked a question to Chloe H.

I currently live in the US and am looking to eventually move to the UK with my UK husband. I’d like to time the move with what’s most practical (ie completing training in the US/UK or even get experience before moving). Do you have any knowledge on what’s the best pathway? Thank you, Lillie Anderton

    Hello Lillie

What an adventure! It sounds like lots of exciting times ahead.

There are lots of factors here that you would need to consider, starting with how much time and money you have to commit to training right now. If you are eligible to apply for our Speedbird Pilot Academy, you would need to hold the right to work the UK and there are limited visas that we can accept. They need to be unrestricted for the entire time you are training (roughly two years) and continue to be valid during the first years of employment. Visas such as settled status visas are acceptable, but anything pre-settled or conditional, like spousal visas, would unlikely to be so.

If you were not eligible for the Academy, then looking into whether you would train modularly, or on an integrated course, would be the next step. The differentiating factor would mostly be the financial commitment you would be willing to take as, although a lot quicker, the integrated route is more expensive and requires a large investment early on. Planning some visits or attending some open days at various flight training organisations would be very useful in both making this decision, and when you have decided, which course footprint you find better suited to your circumstances.

    I hope this has helped
