Will a HKDSE Physics Level 1 affect my chances with BA via the ATO route, even with strong ATPL results?
I plan to apply to FTE and later to British Airways via the self-sponsored ATO route. My HKDSE Physics grade is Level 1, which may be below GCSE grade C equivalency per UK ENIC. FTE accepts me, but will this affect my chances with BA despite strong ATPL results? Or is a grade C mandatory regardless?

Hello Li Xing
To be eligible for the British Airways Self-Sponsored Pathway, you need to have six GCSEs grades 5-9, or in your case the HKDSE equivalent to this. However, if you have individual science grades, in that you took Physics, Chemistry and Biology as separate subjects, then you could omit the Physics result entirely, provided you have another 5 GCSE equivalents. Of course, in these you would still need to have Maths and English Language.
It isn't something that we can assist with but it does sound like you're aware of where to direct these queries already.
Hopefully this is the case and our SSP campaign opens again in the future for you.
Best of luck!

Hi Chloe,
Thank you again for your previous response — it was very helpful.
As a quick follow-up, I’ve now been accepted onto FTE Jerez’s Integrated ATPL course following their eligibility review, and pending completion of the aptitude testing stage. I understand from your message that six GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 5–9, including Maths and English, are required for the Self-Sponsored Pathway.
I would just like to confirm whether this requirement is re-verified at the British Airways application stage, even after graduating from an approved ATO, such as FTE, with strong ATPL results and training performance. I ask to ensure I plan accordingly, including the option of retaking a subject if necessary and to make informed decisions about future opportunities.
Best regards,
Alex
