The best decision I made was to leave BA.......only to return back to the company 6 months later!

From the moment there is a vacancy within my areas in Engineering, I immediately get to work! There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes within Engineering. From waiting from approvals to get a job advertised, to liaising with the line area to ensure fair and consistent recruitment, to attending careers fairs, my role is certainly varied. The whole process for recruitment can take up to 6 months. Within Engineering, we are fortunate enough to interact directly with our candidates to ensure a seamless candidate experience. We work within a cohesive environment including referencing and our onboarding team. I feel very satisfied, when a vacancy is filled.

With many years in different departments, I have managed to learn a few things along the way. Whether it be in Heathrow Operations, Resourcing, Recruitment or Engineering, I am always happy to share what I know. Although not in my remit, I like to provide feedback, CV advise or potential career opportunities to those who ask.

Do not be afraid to try something new! My career at British Airways has been varied. It would be my 10th year in the company, including my 6 month hiatus. In BA it is very normal to stay in the company for decades. I never understood it until I left. I was desperate to try something new, and I thought that meant leaving the company. The great thing about working for a large organisation, is that there are various roles within the company. I never thought I would end up in Engineering, but it has been the best decision. Network, get to know other departments, because there really is something available for everyone in this company. Look at the careers page for inspiration and read the job description and advert, as some titles can be misleading! I was not afraid to leave BA for another reputable company, and I was not afraid to come back after 6 months. Try something new until you get what you are looking for.

Work life balance is very important in being productive and happy at work. After the pandemic, wellbeing has risen to the forefront. Whether it is being part of an activity in or outside of work, I find my work outside of BA supports my role in BA. Being part of a band, has allowed me to be a team player, organised, more relaxed and managing my time more effectively.
